Snacking at work is a must for keeping up your metabolism, energy, and really to make us happy. Just try to stay upset with a piece of chocolate in your mouth (make it dark for those great antioxidants-according to the NIH). Now, we need to snack healthy, so we don’t have a mid-morning or afternoon crash. Plus it keeps the appetite at bay, so that we’re less inclined to grab a fast and filling high calorie meal for lunch or on the way home. So how often should we snack? How do we keep them on hand? What is really healthy and what is not so good?
Think about keeping yourself going between meals- have something in your stomach every 3 hours or so.
It’s pretty easy to keep snacks that don’t need to be refrigerated on hand, so we can go with those. Fresh fruit is also a winner, and doesn’t need to be refrigerated when you’re going to eat it soon anyway.
Healthy snacks should have natural sugars, not processed. Carbs aren’t necessarily bad when you want to sustain energy, but we need to be smart about them. A good rule of thumb is to have foods that are not processed on hand-nuts, fruits, anything with simple ingredients that you can pronounce.
Chips, candy, and crackers can lead to an energy crash and be more detrimental than helpful, so ditch those & we promise you’ll be so glad you did.
Not having to make those decisions yourself, and being provided for is awesome. So, yes we’ve got you covered for healthy snacking.
Here’s some of our favorite local snacks to keep you going at work.
So keep your work stocked with healthy snacks-you won’t just sustain your energy, sustaining your metabolism might help you lose a little weight.
