Description
You can just munch on loquats like the delicious fresh fruit they are, use them in a fruit salad, as a pie filling or make them into a glorious jam. However you chose to enjoy them, you’ll have a few more weeks to do it because the season is short!
To prepare the loquats for a salad or jam, use a paring knife to pluck the blossom end (the non-stem end) of the fruit out. If you get it all, it’ll almost look like popping a cork, leaving a clear view of the big seeds in the center of the fruit. Use the knife to gently remove off the peels, and then use the tip of the knife to pop the seeds out of the little hole you made earlier.
Loquats keep well for up to two weeks in the fruit/vegetable compartment of the home refrigerator.
The seeds should not be eaten.
